On Programming: A How-To Guide
I’m a programmer at heart.  My first career was as a computer practitioner.  My second was teaching college courses in computer science, information systems, IS management, and IT project management. The first course in programming was too often poorly taught, introducing bad practices that had to be un-taught before good practices could be freshly taught.  So I taught it “right” in the first place.  A survey of the second programming course showed that my first-course students performed significantly better in the second course than did other students.  That lent additional credibility to the methods herein. This book now shares it with a wider audience of beginning programmers so that they can avoid bad practices and do it “right” in the first place.  Additional tips from my (first) career spent in computing are also provided throughout this book. A highlight of this book is extended examples constructed and shown step-by-step throughout this book.
Another key feature is flowcharts, Nassi-Schneiderman charts, pseudo-code, and data flow diagrams for all programming structures.
