Karl Schank is both a teacher and computer programmer at heart.
He has written books about programming (On Programming: A How-To Guide) and about the Christian faith (Jesus Saves … but How?) and plans more of both, and on IT project management, and on other topics.
With degrees in Computer Information and Control Engineering (AKA Computer Science and -Engineering), his first career was as a computer practitioner, doing computer programming, systems analysis, management, and project management for the government.
Professor Schank’s second career was teaching a broad range of computer science, information systems, IS management, and IT project management for the University of Maryland University College (now University of Maryland Global Campus), both in person and online. He had the privilege of having students on all six continents except Antarctica and was just waiting for that one!
Additionally, as a committed Christian, Karl has been teaching and leading small group Bible studies for over 40 years. He has attended the Halpine Church Leadership Training Institute, the Trinity Baptist Church (Allenwood, NJ) Institute of Biblical Studies, and holds a certificate from the Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
Now retired, Karl’s current and best volunteer career, overlapping the others for over 40 years, has been learning, teaching, and leading Bible studies in his church, for Bible Study Fellowship, and other ministries. With three careers of experience to share, he is now an author, writing books, essays, and other resources. And he still does recreational, utility, and so-called “productivity” programming and spends time with his wonderful family in Texas.
